Fournish suggestions to the members of the EIS on the subject.

Activities

The report represents the work of 13 UCU members who were convened in September 2020 to examine sexual violence in tertiary education across the UK. The report presents a number of recommendations for employers, alongside recommendations for UCU to implement to enhance its campaigning against sexual violence, as well as its support for and representation of survivors.

Results

The report received significant media coverage when it was published in December 2021, The next stage will be the launch of a nationwide campaign in 2022 to raise awareness of the issue and highlight the support available from UCU as well as ensuring tertiary education employers take action following the report’s findings and recommendations. We've also started work to address internal challenges in this area and ensure our work as a union is trauma-informed; this includes a review of our approach to member complaints relating to sexual violence and the creation of a dedicated caseworker role specialising in dealing with cases of this nature.
