Partnership

Several stakeholders are involved and engaged. The Database for Statistics on Higher Education (DBH) are in charge of collecting data. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) must report to DBH and the Ministry annually and gender balance is part of the annual dialogue meeting between the Ministry and the individual institutions. The Committee for Gender Balance and Diversity in Research (KIF) gives support and recommendations. NAR advocates for gender balance and equal pay on their website, in the news, at conferences, in training of local union representative etc. There is dialogue involving several key actors, more than an actual partnership.

Reason it was developed

Under-representation of women among university professors.

Activities

Regular collection of data on the number of female professors and lobbying to ensure the enhanced representation of women in the higher education sector.

Results

Monitoring the development and thus increased awareness and focus from different stakeholders has led to a gradual improvement of representation of women at professors level. In 2004 the Kif Committee (Committee for Gender Balance and Diversity in Research) was established. The Committee’s mandate is to support and give recommendations on measures that contribute to the mainstreaming of gender equality and diversity work in the institutions in the university and college sector and in the research institute sector, and thus promote gender equality and diversity.

Funding

No specific project funding, but embedded in basic funding of HEIs. Resources are made available by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Assignments are given to State Authority Offices in charge of statistics as well as funding of the work of the KiF Committee etc.
